Lots of the locals have told us that Bristol’s International Balloon Festival is an event not to be missed! Held each year in Bristol, teams from across the UK and beyond bring their hot air balloons to the city to participate in mass ascents, where as many as 100 balloons may launch at a time. The event, which was first held in 1979 is now one of the largest in Europe and is now embedded in the Bristol calendar.
While the organising committee have taken the decision not to run the traditional event for 2021, in light of COVID restrictions and uncertainties, there will still be an opportunity to get involved. This year they are planning a ‘Fiesta Fortnight’, which sounds like lots of fun and will include flypasts and ballooning spectaculars for the city this August.
The organising committee are planning to deliver a number of launches across the city and region during the first two weeks of August, with events designed for members of the public to enjoy safely at a distance – either at home or in their local communities.
People who live in Bristol are being asked to nominate the locations where they would like to see the balloons launch by visiting this link.
